| Trentham (Wellington model Aircraft Club) |
Flying Field : Seddon Rifle Range, located at Trentham Army
Camp Trentham, north of Wellington in Hutt Valley
No engine starts before 9am
Our principal radio flying site is adjacent to the Seddon
Range, at Trentham. Before you set out to fly, you can check
the weather on our great Trentham weather station. To get
there, go along Fergusson Drive in Upper Hutt to the lights
at Sutherland Street. Proceed along Sutherland, across the
railway line after which the road becomes Messines Ave. Keep
going until the road veers to the left at the end. Just past
the first of the wooden clubrooms on the right, there is a
driveway to the right. Go in the driveway and up over the
stop bank. Click on the thumbnail map below for a larger image.
There is a gate on the other side. If there is a red flag
flying and the range is in use, do NOT enter, unless the shooting
is taking place at the far end of the range. If there are
cars at around the 500 meter mound, proceed through the gate
with caution, leaving it open or closed, as you found it (actually,
the gate seems to be missing at present). Park in accordance
with the other cars. Sheep graze the area so you may find
gumboots helpful.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, DRIVE OR PARK ON THE MOUNDS.
Flying for power aircraft takes place to the right (West)
of the fence, and the strip is enclosed with an electric fence.
Soaring usually takes place to the left (East) of the parked
cars. Make yourself known to any club members present, and
they will make you welcome. You may fly at Trentham only if
you are affiliated to the NZMAA, have attained your "Wings"
badge, AND there is a WMAC member present There is a standard
NZMAA frequency board in use. Please do not turn on your transmitter
without the proper peg in your possession.
